Herberger’s will soon feature local merchandise in its new “Close to Home” section.

The section features a number of specialty products sourced from local entrepreneurs.

Etta Fox, the store’s manager, said the community is excited about the shop. She hopes it brings more people in to shop locally in the mall and in Dickinson.

“It’s nice to have something that not anyone else has,” Fox said. “It’s unique to our area. It’s unique for our shoppers, and they’re really enjoying it. … It’s really important that we’re all shopping local and supporting each other.”

One of the small businesses featured exclusively at the Dickinson location is Jo-Jo Bean’s Bath Treats, which is based in Rapid City, S.D. The business was founded by Jean Bloomgren in 2013 and named for her daughter Jorjia (Jo-Jo Bean), who has sensitive skin and cannot use many commercially available body products, according to a news release. So, Jean decided to create her own.

Jo-Jo Bean’s Bath Treats offers “spa-quality skin care products with an artistic flare” — with a variety of colors, glitter and shimmer.

All of Jo-Jo Bean’s products are made with natural ingredients.

Bloomgren said she is excited for her products to be back in the birthplace of her business. So far things are going well.

“I am very thankful that Herberger’s or Bon-Ton did allow for me to be back in Dickinson,” she said. “They kind of followed my story and found me through social media. They were understanding that I’m from Dickinson, and that’s where my business was essentially born, so it only made sense that I would have my products in Dickinson again.”

The businesses come to Herberger’s through an Online Sourcing Fair. The fair invited local makers, artisans and entrepreneurs with established businesses who were interested in having their products sold in “Close to Home” shops. The retailer plans to hold future fairs to help the shops continue to grow.
