Singles using Tinder and other popular Match Group-owned dating apps will soon be able to display their vaccination status on profiles as a badge.
The new feature is part of Dallas-based Match’s new effort with the Biden administration to promote COVID-19 vaccines to the American public.
Match Group sees COVID-19 vaccinations as a necessary step for singles to be able to date safely in-person, the company said in a release.
The badge feature will roll out in “the coming weeks” and remain on the platform until July 4, according to Match.
And the badge comes with perks.
On the Match, BLK and Chispa platforms, users who add the vaccination badge will receive a free algorithmic “boost” to elevate their profile to other users.
On Tinder, the world’s most popular dating app, users who support the campaign by adding vaccinated stickers to their profile will receive a free “Super Like” starting in June. Tinder will also get a “Vaccine Center” feature that shows users how to find the nearest vaccination site and will provide educational resources about the vaccines.
Plenty of Fish users who add the vaccinated badge will receive credits to use on Plenty of Fish Live! – the dating app’s live streaming feature.
It’s not clear from Match’s release how, or if, the company will verify that users who take advantage of the vaccine badges are actually inoculated. Dating app users have taken to adding their vaccination status and preferences to profiles voluntarily in recent months as vaccines have become widely available in the U.S.
