Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is leading “the Freshman Force” as a new superhero in her very own comic book.
Sporting all white and her trademark hoops and lipstick, the congresswoman stands victorious over a toppled Republican elephant in a newly released cover for “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force: New Party Who Dis?”
A second cover — the “Washington Warrior Collector Variant” — features her clad in Wonder Woman-like armor while a blue, Democratic donkey loosens his collar and looks on with concern.
“Comic creators converge to celebrate the election of the most diverse group of freshman congresspersons in history, and spare no-one in this satire that takes aim at Washington,” according to the Devil’s Due Comics website.
The comic book, due out in May from the independent publisher, is not endorsed by Ocasio-Cortez. But the freshman congresswoman did reveal herself as comic book fan when she quoted vigilante Rorshach from the comic book series, “Watchmen,” last month.
“To quote Alan Moore: ‘None of you understand. I’m not locked up in here with YOU. You’re locked up in here with me,’ ” she tweeted in response to a Politico story.
Ocasio-Cortez, 29, became the youngest woman elected to Congress after upsetting Democratic incumbent Joe Crowley during the midterm primaries back in the fall.
“It’s no secret that AOC has become the unofficial leader of the new school, and has sparked life back into Washington and that’s reflected in the enthusiasm on display by the men and women contributing to this project,”
Devil’s Due Publisher Josh Blaylock told Comic Book Resources.
“While we don’t agree on everything, we share a common excitement for the breath of fresh air the new Congress brings. I hope this is as much a cathartic release for readers as it has been for us creators.”
Devil’s Due has also released satirical works about former President Barack Obama, who starred as “Barrack the Barbarian” in his own comic.
