NEW DELHI

In an industry first, hyperlocal delivery start-up Shadowfax has inducted women riders to its fleet.

About 50-odd women have started delivering food parcels and e-commerce consignments in select areas of Mumbai and Bengaluru, with the next batch of 20 expected to join by Monday, said Abhishek Bansal, co-founder and chief executive officer at Shadowfax.

This is part of a joint initiative by the Mumbai-based company and Hey Deedee, a social impact start-up that trains underprivileged women for its parcel delivery program.

Started by social entrepreneur Revathi Roy, Hey Deedee is a non-government organization with the mission to employ low-income group women in the services sector. In March last year, its first fleet of 25 riders took to the roads to deliver for independent restaurants.

Under the arrangement, Hey Deedee will provide training and mentoring to women riders and also source new riders for Shadowfax.

Shadwofax started the pilot with women riders in August last year.
