Life in the big city may require small wheels.
Cars.com has compiled a list of the 10 best cars for urban dwellers and its top pick was the 2014 Kia Soul, a compact hatchback crossover that offers utility and spare dimensions.
In presenting the list, the website noted that city-dwellers need vehicles small enough to squeeze into tight spots, maneuver and turn around on narrow urban streets and also carry stuff.
The Soul – which starts at $14,400, earned praise for its ride and handling, convenience features such as heated front and rear seats and its Android-based multimedia system.
“Affordable and city-friendly need not mean Spartan, and the 2014 Soul proves it,” Cars.com said.
Notably absent from the list was the Smart Fortwo, a tiny two-seat car designed primarily for urban driving.
However, Cars.com cited the vehicle’s “many” shortcomings in deciding to exclude it from the list, including worse-than-expected fuel economy (41 miles per gallon), an “SUV-like” rollover rating and a poor transmission.
In descending order, the rest of the vehicles on Cars.com’s list were:
2015 Honda Fit
2014 Toyota Prius C
2014 BMW i3
2014 Lexus CT200h
2015 Nissan Leaf
2014 Jeep Wrangler two-door
2014 Scion xB
2014 Buick Encore
2014 Scion iQ
