Coming to an NFL training camp in 2020: Carli Lloyd.

What started as an innocent invitation to Philadelphia Eagles turned into a viral moment, and now has the U.S. women’s soccer star contemplating switching sports giving field goal kicking a real shot.

The 37-year-old Lloyd split the uprights on a 55-yard field goal last week, prompting the discussion of just how realistic an NFL career could be. One team reportedly gauged her interesting in kicking in their preseason finale this week.

Lloyd will be busy playing in a U.S. soccer friendly Thursday instead, but clearly is intrigued.

“I am having discussions with my husband and James (Galanis, her trainer) about the reality of playing in the NFL,” Lloyd told Fox Sports. “They both feel that I could do it and should consider it.

So I’m seriously considering it, as it’s a challenge.”

Critics have pointed out that Lloyd took five steps before that field goal at Eagles practice, while an NFL kicker usually only takes two. If she can do that, her trainer says, an NFL opportunity may become reality.

“We’ll try kicking balls with a couple of steps,” Galanis told ESPN. “And if her range is still the same … then that’s an important piece we knocked over because we’ll know that she can kick the ball 55 yards with two steps, the same way an NFL player could.

“Once we knock that over, we’ll contact one of the NFL teams and tell them that we’re interested and we’d like to come down and spend some time with their field goal-kicking coaches and let them make some tweaks and fix her technique or adjust her technique. From there, bring in the team, and she can do it live at training in kind of like a realistic situation.”

Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen threw some shade at the possibility, and is rightly getting roasted on social media.
