Have you ever needed a greeting card and could not find one that said exactly what you wanted it to say? A Mother’s Day card or birthday card that almost got it right, but not quite?

That’s what happened to Nikki Tyler and inspired her to begin her own business, Little Lovelies Studio.

Tyler said she started her business in 2013 when she was unable to find a card for her mother for Mother’s Day.

“I could not find one that felt authentic to our relationship so I designed my own and have kept at it ever since,” she said. “I felt like having the business gave me a purpose outside of motherhood.”

Tyler has four children ranging from 8 years to 10 months old.

Continuing, she said she often found it difficult to hold conversations with people who worked outside the home.

“All I did was preschool dropoffs, playdates and make lunch for my kids”, she said. “The business helped me solidify who I was as a person. I wasn’t looking to turn my knack for design into a business, but once the design bug returned, it was back for good”.

Tyler has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from East Carolina University. She chose to stay at home full time after the birth of her first child.

Little Lovelies Studios creates handmade personalized greeting cards as well as enamel pins and apparel.

Because Tyler worked from home and did not have a storefront, she turned to the internet to grow her business. Her product is sold in more than 100 stores across the country. She has more than 12,000 followers on Instragram where she shares products and gives followers a look into her personal life as a mother of four who is also an entrepreneur.

The greeting cards are available locally at NC Made, located at 1409 Tatum Drive, New Bern. The store only sells products that are made in North Carolina.

Tyler said although her online business is doing well, she could not be as successful without support from the local community.
